With the Philadelphia Flyers in free fall in the standings after dropping eight of their last nine games, GM Chuck Fletcher said he will be a seller at Friday's NHL trade deadline. He told reporters on Tuesday that he's willing to listen to offers for all his players.
James van Riemsdyk appears to be the most likely trade candidate. CapFriendly indicates the 33-year-old winger is a UFA this summer. He also lacks a no-trade clause.
The trade market has been depleted of notable wingers recently, making van Riemsdyk an enticing alternative for clubs still seeking scoring depth at left wing before the deadline. TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported Tuesday that the Vegas Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames showed some interest in van Riemsdyk.
Philly Hockey Now's Sam Carchidi reported Fletcher was open to retaining some salary to facilitate a trade. Carchidi believes he was referring to van Riemsdyk.
Fletcher also didn't rule out trading Kevin Hayes for the right offer. The 30-year-old forward has three years remaining on his contract, with an average annual value of $7.14 million and a 12-team no-trade clause. However, ESPN's Emily Kaplan believes there's a limited market for Hayes even with salary retained.
LeBrun's colleague Darren Dreger reported the Flyers were taking calls on Ivan Provorov. He carries an AAV of $6.75 million through 2024-25 but lacks no-trade protection. Kaplan reports the Flyers have been trying to move Provorov, but no deal has materialized yet. Dreger believes it'll take a significant offer to convince Fletcher to move the 26-year-old defenseman.
