A Saturday afternoon contest between the QMJHL’s Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Sherbrooke Phoenix turned ugly after Simon Desbiens boarded Jeremy Roy. Roy got up and repeatedly slashed Desbiens. Both received match penalties on the play.
Saturday afternoon’s QMJHL game between the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Sherbrooke Phoenix turned ugly in a hurry in the second period.
Fifteen seconds into the second period, with Baie-Comeau leading 2-0 on the strength of goals by Luca Ciampini and Maxime St-Cyr, Drakkar winger Simon Desbiens came barreling in on Phoenix defenseman Jeremy Roy as he went back to retrieve a puck behind the Sherbrooke goal. Desbiens boarded Roy viciously from behind, to which Roy took exception, slashing Desbiens repeatedly in the ankle. The entire scene is ugly. (Video via Jerome Berube)

On the play, Desbiens was issued five minutes for boarding and a game misconduct, Roy was slapped with a slashing major and a match penalty, and Sherbrooke’s Cameron Darcy and Baie-Comeau’s Guillaume Beaudry were issued minor penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The game devolved further in the second period as the two teams racked up 32 additional penalty minutes, including a fight, three roughing calls and a misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Baie-Comeau went on to win 4-0.
