The Vancouver Canucks don't want to rebuild. With the winless streak to start the season, are some trades in the works to keep pushing?

Winless in their first seven games (0-5-2) of this season, the Vancouver Canucks are in danger of falling into an early-season hole that is too deep to escape. That could spark rumors over whether they'll try to make a trade to shake things up.

An early-season trade was one option suggested by The Athletic's Harman Dayal, but he said he believes the Canucks have too many problems to be sorted out with just one trade. He acknowledged fans calling for the club to shop Conor Garland or Bo Horvat for a top-four defenseman but doubts such a deal is possible right now.

The lack of quality defensemen in the trade market at this point in the season is another issue. The Arizona Coyotes' Jakob Chychrun is the only notable one currently available. However, he's still rehabbing from off-season wrist surgery, plus the Coyotes have set a high asking price that Canucks management could be unwilling to meet.

Media gossip has the Canucks among several clubs thought to be interested in Carolina Hurricanes rearguard Ethan Bear. While the 25-year-old still has potential as a second-pairing defender, he has yet to crack a deep Hurricanes' blueline this season.

Beyond those two, the pickings get noticeably slim.

Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli last Friday said a number of teams have made offers for Pierre-Olivier Joseph. However, the Pittsburgh Penguins appear reluctant to part with the 23-year-old. 

Appearing on the Sekeres & Price podcast, TSN's Darren Dreger mentioned short-term options like Danny DeKeyser, Thomas Hickey or Jason Demers. All three are currently toiling in the AHL.
