DES MOINES, Iowa - Jeremy Williams' goal late in the second period proved to be the winner as the Toronto Marlies edged the Iowa Stars 2-1 Tuesday night in the AHL.

Williams' goal came with less than two minutes left in the period, with assists by Bates Battaglia and Kris Newbury. Derrick Walser scored unassisted in the first period, his eleventh of the year.

Nolan Baumgartner counted for the lone Stars goal, a third period power-play marker at 8:38.

Scott Clemmensen made 21 saves for Toronto, who lead the North Division at 26-9-0-4.

Tobias Stephan suffered the loss with 26-save effort, as Iowa remains in the basement of the West Division at 19-20-2-2.
