The AHL said Monday that the team currently based in Cincinnati, Ohio, had been sold to Ice Track Corporation, which is building a 6,500-seat arena in the Windsor area.
It's the first step in bringing the team to Canada. Ice Track Corp. will now have to meet a set of criteria laid out by the AHL's board of governors, which includes having the arena ready for the start of the 2008-09 season.
The only current AHL franchises currently based in Canada are the Manitoba Moose, Hamilton Bulldogs and Toronto Marlies.
