NHL pre-season schedule to run Sept. 14-19, includes five European games

NEW YORK - The Vancouver Canucks and New York Islanders open the NHL pre-season in Terrace, B.C., on Sept. 14, part of an 109-game exhibition schedule announced Wednesday.

Halifax (Florida vs. Ottawa, Sept. 15), London, Ont. (Philadelphia vs. Toronto, Sept. 17), Quebec City (Boston vs. Montreal, Sept. 20), Regina (Ottawa vs. Tampa Bay, Sept. 21), Saskatoon (Islanders vs. Calgary, Sept. 19; and Islanders vs. Edmonton, Sept. 20) and Winnipeg (Edmonton vs. Tampa Bay, Sept. 24) are the other Canadian non-NHL cities that will also host contests.

The Stanley Cup finalist Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers, meanwhile, will play six games in five European cities against local opposition prior to their regular-season openers overseas.

Detroit and St. Louis meet Oct. 2 and 3 in Stockholm, Sweden while Chicago and Florida clash Oct. 2 and 3 in Helsinki, Finland to kick off the regular season.

The pre-season wraps up Sept. 30.
