NHL Roundup: Tomas Vokoun stops 30 as Washington shuts out Pittsburgh 1-0

WASHINGTON - Jason Chimera scored off a turnover in the first period and Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves, giving the Washington Capitals a 1-0 victory over the Penguins on Wednesday night, Pittsburgh's sixth consecutive loss.

Vokoun handed Pittsburgh its first shutout this season. The Penguins have scored only six goals in the skid.

Chimera gave Washington the only offence it needed at 15:25, finishing a 3-on-1 rush right in front of goalie Marc-Andre Fleury's net. The Capitals have won seven of eight at home.

Pittsburgh, which had injured captain Sidney Crosby watching from the press box, is on its longest skid since a 10-game drought in 2006. Washington had lost two in a row, both on the road, by a combined score of 10-4.

DEVILS 2, OILERS 1, OT

EDMONTON (AP)—Zach Parise scored a power-play goal 1:06 into overtime, and New Jersey beat the Oilers for its third win in four games.

Parise took a feed from Patrik Elias and snapped a shot into a wide-open net behind goalie Nikolai Khabibulin.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored a short-handed goal in the second period and added an assist on Parise's winner for the Devils (24-17-2), who jumped over Toronto into sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Ales Hemsky scored for the Oilers (16-22-4), who are falling deeper out of contention in the West. Edmonton has lost four straight and 11 of 13.
