Norrena's 30 saves helps Blue Jackets get rare win in Colorado

DENVER - Fredrik Norrena had 30 saves, Jason Chimera had a goal and an assist and the Columbus Blue Jackets got a rare win in Colorado, beating the Avalanche 4-2 on Thursday night.

Derick Brassard, Andrew Murray and Jan Hejda had a goal and Norrena earned his first win of the season for the Blue Jackets, who ended a three-game losing streak.

Paul Stastny and Tyler Arnason scored power-play goals for the Avalanche, who lost their second straight following a five-game winning streak. Andrew Raycroft, who finished with 10 saves, gave up four goals in his first 13 shots before being pulled in favour of Peter Budaj to start the third period.

Since joining the NHL at the start of the 2000-01 season, the Blue Jackets are 2-13-0 in Denver. Before Thursday, Columbus' only victory in Colorado was a 3-0 win on Dec. 5, 2006.

Brassard wasted little time in getting the first goal of the game and his fourth of the season. He came into the Avalanche end along the right boards and handcuffed Raycroft with a shot over the goalie's left arm to make it 1-0 just 1:38 into the game.

At 8:30 of the second period, Chimera sent a slap shot over Raycroft's left shoulder for his fourth goal.

Murray scored his second goal of the season at 13:50 of the second, and Hejda got his first goal 2:58 later to make it 4-0. Stastny ended Norrena's shutout bid with his third goal at 18:30 of the second, and Arnason scored with 1:27 left in the third.

A week ago the Avalanche led the NHL in goals per game, but they have since struggled to score. They were shut out in Calgary on Tuesday and until Stastny's goal had scored just once over their past 179:58.

Colorado nearly tied the game midway through the first period when Joe Sakic fanned on a pass in front of an open net. A minute earlier, Novotny nearly gave Columbus a 2-0 lead but his shot from the slot hit the left post.

Notes: Chimera's goal was his 50th with Columbus. ... Hejda's goal was his first in his past 115 games. ... Colorado outshot Columbus 14-3 in the third period. Avalanche D Scott Hannan played in his 600th career game Thursday. ... Colorado is 23-4-1-1 against Columbus.
