With only months remaining until the NWHL hits the ice for its inaugural season, the burgeoning league’s four clubs are taking the league’s aesthetics to a fan vote.
The NWHL has launched fan voting to help select the jerseys for the clubs. Each of the New York Riveters, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale and Boston Pride have had jerseys designed for them by NWHL fans with hopes that the designs will make it to the ice for the 2015-16 campaign. For each team, two options are available for voting. Two of the early standouts include the Brooks Freeman designed Riveters and Whale jerseys which do a great job of paying homage to the New York Rangers and Hartford Whalers, the NHL clubs who have put roots down in the respective locales. Take a look:
At present, the voting results aren’t being live updated and there’s no measure of which jersey has the lead as the process goes along. However, with the league expected to have free agency close on Aug. 17 and teams likely planning training camps or team events shortly thereafter, there’s potential we can see which jerseys, exactly, will be hitting the ice by the time the summer comes to a close. As of Thursday, each club had at least five players signed on for the upcoming season, with Boston having the most players under contract with seven. The signings have continued to roll in over the past month and, with Canadian training camp complete in early July and the International camp fast approaching, rosters should be expected be rounded out well before the deadline. The International camp is expected to end July 27, which would give the league’s four teams a 21-day window to finalize their signings. There’s potential for more camps to be held following the International camp, but no dates have been announced at this time.
