EDMONTON - Edmonton Oilers GM Kevin Lowe further solidified his defence corps Monday by signing Denis Grebeshkov to a one-year contract.

The 24-year-old Russian had three goals and 15 assists in his first year with the Oilers. He was fourth on the club in plus/minus at +2 and averaged 16 minutes 52 seconds of ice time per game.

Grebeshkov was acquired in 2007 from the New York Islanders for defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron and a third-round pick in this year's NHL entry draft.

Grebeshkov is the third player to sign with Edmonton in two days. Promising defenceman Tom Gilbert signed a US$24-million, six-year deal and forward Robert Nillson received a $6-million, three-year contract Saturday.
