The USHL's Omaha Lancers are off to quite a start this season. Through five games they have a perfect 10 points and average 4.4 goals per game. That's pretty good. What's better? Goalie Cole Bruns has kept the goals-against average at 0.

The 19-year-old Bruns, an undrafted native of Prairie Grove, Ill., has played 300 minutes without allowing a goal. That's 117 shots and a brand new USHL record for consecutive goose eggs. In fact, he's already only one shutout shy of tying the Lancers Tier 1 era (2002-present) record of six shutouts in an entire season, which was set by Jeff Lerg in 2004-05.

Bruns' impressive mark is still 161 minutes and 29 seconds shy of the longest NHL shutout streak, set by Alec Connell of the Ottawa Senators in 1927-28. But he's 32 minutes and one second away from Brian Boucher's modern NHL mark.

Well, hey, the Edmonton Oilers need a goalie…

Bruns and the Lancers play Waterloo (4-1), Chicago (0-6) and Indiana (1-3-2) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
