On the day of the season opener, the Columbus Blue Jackets name their captains

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced the alternate captains who will assist Rick Nash during the 2011-12 season.

Left-winger R.J. Umberger will continue to serve as an alternate captain, with centres Antoine Vermette and Jeff Carter as well as defenceman James Wisniewski rotating as the other.

Coach Scott Arniel announced the captains Friday before the team opened its season at home against Nashville.
