Open up the game by making ice bigger

If the NHL wants to open the game up and make the trap less a part of the game, why don't they do the obvious and make the ice surface larger?

This is the general consensus of many people I have talked to. Now, before everyone gets too excited let’s only take out one row of seats on each side of the ice surface.

I've heard the cost argument and for teams that pay high wages this is a drop in the bucket as far as cost is concerned.

Besides, we want a better game with more display of skill and speed.
