OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators returned defenceman Jared Cowen to the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old Saskatoon native was selected by the Senators with the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NHL entry draft.

Cowen did not record a point and had four penalty minutes in two pre-season games with Ottawa. It was his first game action since suffering a knee injury last January.

The Senators' camp roster is now down to 27 players (three goaltenders, eight defencemen and 16 forwards). The Senators (2-3-0) will close out the pre-season on Friday against the visiting Boston Bruins.
