Panthers F Booth cleared to travel after struck in throat by puck against Sabres

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Florida Panthers forward David Booth was cleared to travel with his team after being struck in the throat with a puck in a 4-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

Booth was hurt with 2:31 left in the first period and was sent to a Buffalo hospital for precautionary reasons. Panthers spokesman Justin Copertino said the player was scheduled to join the team for its flight to Pittsburgh following the game.

Booth was hurt after being struck by Buffalo defenceman Tyler Myers' dump-in along the boards in the Panthers' zone. Booth lay on the ice for a minute, before getting up on his own and skating to the bench while holding his jaw.

A Florida trainer and then a Sabres doctor checked on Booth, who then left for the locker room.

Panthers coach Peter DeBoer said Booth was sent to the hospital for observation after doctors expressed concern that the player's throat might swell.

His status is uncertain for Florida's game against the Penguins on Sunday.

The fifth-year NHL player is tied for the team lead with 21 goals and is second with 38 points. He hasn't missed a game this season after missing 53 last season because of a pair of concussions.
