Panthers seek third straight win vs. Islanders

Florida (23-17-8) at NY Islanders (14-29-5), 7:00 p.m. EST

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- Success has been rare for the

New York Islanders lately. However, their current run will be

put to the test against a potential playoff-bound club.

Seeking their third straight victory, the Islanders host the

Florida Panthers on Saturday.

New York is coming off a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on

Thursday, and has the chance to match its season-high winning

streak set from November 13-17.

Prior to their current run, the Islanders had dropped eight

games in a row and 20 of 22.

Meanwhile, Florida, which has not qualified for the playoffs

since the 1999-2000 season, is in eighth place in the Eastern

Conference and also riding a two-game run.

The Panthers have also earned a point in 10 of their 11 games

this month (7-1-3), including Thursday's 5-1 romp over the

Montreal Canadiens.

In the teams' last matchup, New York cruised to a 4-2 victory at

home on December 31. The Islanders fell, 2-0, on October 18 at

Florida, where the two will meet again on Thursday.
