Florida Panthers goalie Spencer Knight will be unavailable for the team indefinitely as he is to enter the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.
The NHL and NHLPA announced Florida Panthers goaltender Spencer Knight will be unavailable for the club indefinitely while he receives care from the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.
The 21-year-old will return to the club once program administrators clear him for on-ice competition, according to the joint release by the NHL and NHLPA. He will continue to be paid while receiving treatment, as per the terms of the agreement. As is the case with any player who enters the program, no further details will be made available unless the player chooses to share them.
Knight has played in 21 games this season for the Panthers, posting a 9-8-3 record with a 3.18 goals-against average, a .901 save percentage and one shutout.
The Panthers re-assigned Knight to the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers on Thursday to get more playing time – the NHL club has three days without a game after Friday’s match against Buffalo. Florida called up Alex Lyon on Thursday as well.
Florida took the Darien, Conn. native with its 13th overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft. Over his three seasons with the team, Knight’s had a 32-17-6 record in 49 starts and 57 appearances, with a 2.91 GAA, .906 SP and three shutouts.
Needless to say, the hockey world wishes Knight the best as he receives assistance.
