Peter Mueller scores three goals as Coyotes hammer Sharks 5-1

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Peter Mueller scored three goals and rookie Mikkel Boedker added a pair in the Phoenix Coyotes' 5-1 win over the San Jose Sharks on Monday night.

Mueller scored his hat trick entirely in the second period. After sending a wrist shot past Brian Boucher at 6:19, he converted on Daniel Winnik's pass to put the Coyotes up 2-1. After Boedker's first goal, the 20-year-old Mueller got his third at 17:03. Lukas Kasper scored off a centring pass from Jamie McGinn late in the first period to give the Sharks a brief 1-0 lead.

Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov played the first two periods for Phoenix and surrendered one goal on 20 shots before Mikael Tellqvist relieved him and stopped all nine shots.

Boucher gave up five goals on 21 shots.
