Philip Tot score twice, has three assists as Hurricanes defeat Giants 6-3

VANCOUVER - Philip Tot scored two goals and added three assists as the Lethbridge Hurricanes defeated the Vancouver Giants 6-3 in Western Hockey League action Tuesday night.

With the victory, the team’s first in three games, the Hurricanes improved to 17-29-1. The loss marks the third in a row for Vancouver, which falls to 26-17-2 for the season.

Jay Merkley also had a two-goal game, while teammate Nick Buonassisi scored a goal as part of his three-point performance. Jaimen Yakubowski scored the game winner just over a minute into the third period.

Jordan Martinook, Blake Orban and Marek Tvrdon scored for the Giants in defeat.

Despite the loss, the Giants outshot the Hurricanes 41-36. Lethbridge went 2-for-3 on the power play, while Vancouver went 1-for-3.

Lethbridge scored the lone goal in the second period to go into the final period with a 3-2 lead. Vancouver equalized quickly just 22 seconds into the third, but Lethbridge stormed back with three unanswered goals to secure the win.

Backup goaltender Liam Liston won his fifth game of the season with a 38-save performance.
