Player of the Week - April 26, 2010

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of April 19-25, 2010 is San Jose Sharks center Joe Pavelski.

The 25-year-old ‘Little Joe’ led the Sharks to a six-game Round 1 win over the Colorado Avalanche. His eight points in six games led the team with Ryane Clowe and his five goals is tied for third in the league.

In the three games the Sharks played last week, Pavelski was a central piece.

First, in Game 4 with the Sharks trailing the Avs 2-1 in the series, Pavelski broke out with a two-point effort that included the game-winning goal in overtime in San Jose’s 2-1 win. Pavelski’s 23:52 of ice time was his highest of the first round.

Back home for Game 5, Pavelski and the Sharks dominated Colorado in a 5-0 win. Pavelski notched another goal in 18:16 of ice time and recorded three shots on net.

Finally, in the deciding sixth game, Pavelski scored twice for a three-game goal scoring streak and added an assist for a three-point game in San Jose’s 5-2 win in Colorado. With four shots on goal, Pavelski potted his second game-winning goal of the series as the Sharks advanced to the second round.

Pavelski has five goals and eight points in six games this post-season with two game-winning goals and a plus-6 rating.
