The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Dec. 14-20 is Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Cristobal Huet.

Starting two of his team’s three games on the week, Huet faced divisional foes St. Louis and Detroit.

In the first tilt of the week, Huet faced 27 shots against the league’s 30th ranked offense from the Blues. Turning aside every shot he faced, Huet earned his second shutout of the season and first since Oct. 24 in a 3-0 final.

Four days later, after sitting for the 5-4 shootout win over Boston, Huet returned between the pipes to face the Red Wings who had won five of their past seven games. This time, Huet faced only 20 shots and again came through with a shutout, his third of the season, to tie his total from all of last season.

With a 16-7-2 record on the season, Huet now has a shining 2.01 goals-against average and .916 save percentage as the Hawks lead the Central Division by two points over Nashville and are also first place in the Western Conference by two points over the Preds, Kings and Sharks, who have all played more games than Chicago.
