The Hockey News Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3 is Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom.

The Swedish defenseman helped his squad to three wins this week, including a shutout by Dominik Hasek against Colorado Friday, Feb. 2, giving Detroit seven victories in a row.

Lidstrom had a goal and four assists in those three games and was plus-6.

He currently leads the league with a plus-47, nine ahead of teammate Pavel Datsyuk.

Lidstrom is first among defensemen in scoring, with 51 points (six goals, 45 assists) in 54 games and has had 10 points in his last six games.

Fellow Red Wing, Brian Rafalski is second with 45.

Lidstrom’s stellar play all season makes him a strong candidate for his third straight Norris Trophy.
