The Hockey News

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Jan. 4-10, 2010, is Vancouver Canucks winger Alexandre Burrows.

In three games on the week, Burrows ignited for six goals and an assist and etched his own place in Canucks team history in the process.

First, in a 7-3 drubbing of the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, Burrows was the offensive catalyst, notching his first hat trick of the season and breaking a drought that had seen him score just two goals in 13 games. He managed this mark despite getting only 15:45 of ice time.

Two nights later at home to the defensively sound Phoenix Coyotes, Burrows became the first Canuck since Petri Skriko in 1986-87 to record back-to-back hat tricks. In 18:45 of ice time, Burrows recorded four shots and his first marker counted as the game-winner in a 4-0 shutout.

Finally, in an epic tilt with division-rival Calgary, the feisty Burrows recorded 21:11 of ice time, four shots and added an assist in a tough 3-2 shootout loss at home.

With the loss to the Flames, the Canucks fell out of top spot in the Northwest division and currently sit one point back of Calgary, tied with Colorado at 56 points.

Through 45 games, Burrows has 17 goals and 35 assists to go along with a plus-19 rating.
