The Hockey News Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 21 to Jan. 27 is Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson.

After being sidelined with a hip flexor for two games, Alfredsson sniped seven points against Tampa Bay.

On Thursday, Jan. 24, Alfredsson netted a hat trick with goals on the power play, shorthanded and even strength. He added four helpers and finished with a franchise record seven points as the Sens doubled up the Lightning 8-4 in their last game before the all-star break.

It was his seventh multi-goal game this season and the sixth hat trick of his career.

The Gothenburg, Sweden native now leads the league in points with 67 and is second in goals with 32. Alfredsson’s recent play has analysts suggesting a Hart trophy may be on the horizon.
