The Hockey News

The Hockey News

The Hockey News’ player of the week for March 9 to 15, 2009 is Calgary Flames forward Olli Jokinen.

The recently acquired sniper tallied six goals and eight points in three games last week, the pinnacle of which was a three-goal, five-point performance against Toronto Saturday night.

Jokinen started the week off with one tally against the Devils and followed that up with a two-goal performance in a thrilling shootout win over Detroit.

His breakout game against the Leafs was highlighted by a second period goal in which he caught Leaf defenseman Ian White flat-footed and proceeded to flip the puck over the defender before batting the puck out of the air with his backhand into the net.

Jokinen has now recorded eight goals and 10 points in the six games he has played since the Flames acquired him at the trade deadline from Phoenix.
