Player of the Week - May 10, 2010

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of May 3-9, 2010 is Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews.

Entering the week in a 1-0 series hole to Vancouver, Toews and the Hawks blew open the doors to take a 3-1 lead before losing Sunday.

In Game 2 of the series, a 4-2 win for the Hawks, Toews recorded an assist in 22:05 of ice time.

However, it was in Game 3 the center exploded. In a 5-2 win in Vancouver, Toews set up three goals and had two power play points in 19:20 of ice time. The performance was his second three-point game of these playoffs.

In Game 4, Toews recorded a hat trick – his first goals of the Canucks series – and also added two assists to the mix on five shots and in 20:44 of ice time. The Hawks won the game 7-4 and took a stranglehold on the series.

In Game 5 back home and with a chance to close out the series, the Hawks only managed one goal in a 4-1 loss. Toews recorded the marker, his sixth of the post-season, which leads his team.

Currently with 19 points in 11 games, Toews leads all playoff scorers. He’s also second with four power play goals, second with two game-winners and is tied for fifth in goals, three off the pace of Joe Pavelski and Mike Cammalleri.
