Playfair and Cooke tarnish the sport

Christiaan Honig, Collegeville, Pa.

For years I have wondered why even some of the most important events in the hockey season receive, at best, a one-page article.

The only time hockey is ever reported on the same level as other sports is after the Stanley Cup has been claimed.

This week I finally discovered why.

The reason: people like Jim Playfair and Matt Cooke.

I have heard numerous comments from non-hockey fans about the disgraceful actions of both and how hockey is a thug sport.

Both Cooke and Playfair succeeded in damaging hockey's already floundering reputation and in setting the game back even more.

Congratulations.
