Hockey fans, and fans of sports in general, are interested in numbers, whether they're players statistics, projections or even player salaries. There are a number of useful and not so useful websites that give us our numbers fix and one of the best in the hockey industry has decided to close its doors.

Popular hockey website Capgeek.com, an incredibly useful tool that tracks anything and everything related to hockey salaries and a tool used on a daily basis by the staff at THN, will cease operations according to the following statement on the homepage of their website:

Effective immediately, Jan. 3, 2015, CapGeek.com has permanently ceased operations. This sudden decision is made with a heavy heart and is due to the personal health of CapGeek.com founder and director Matthew Wuest. While this decision may raise many questions, it is requested that you respect Matthew's privacy and wish for no media or purchase inquiries. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding at this difficult time.

Wuest, a freelance hockey journalist, who has written for THN, said in a 2009 interview with Yahoo that he created the website because, “It dawned on me that a calculator could be created to play with the numbers and see who could fit," he said.

At the time Wuest was compiling a database of salary information for his Web site, RedWingsCentral.com, when he had the idea to start Capgeek and with kick-starting help from Chip McCleary, Capgeek was born.

Capgeek has provided an email address on their home page as well, but it clearly states that sending an email will not guarantee a response.
