Predators sign F Jerred Smithson to US$1.6-million, two-year contract

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Predators have signed forward Jerred Smithson to a US$1.6-million, two-year contract taking him through the 2012-13 season.

The Predators announced the contract Wednesday. Smithson will make $800,000 each for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

Smithson, 31, has eight points (four goals, four assists) in 42 games this season. He ranks eighth in the NHL in faceoff winning percentage at 58.7 per cent and has led Nashville forwards in hits in the past three seasons.

Smithson has 79 points (34-45) in 434 career NHL games with the Predators and Los Angeles Kings.
