Probert will be missed

Larry Zanni, Calgary

As a fan back in the mid-80s, I had a chance to meet Bob Probert.

It was after a Canucks game at the old Pacific Coliseum. I asked him several questions and he answered them all honestly and professionally.

I pointed to his hands because they looked like they went through a meat grinder. He simply chuckled and said: "It's how I make my living."

Standing beside him was a young, much smaller smiling teammate. At the time I didn't recognize the guy. Probert said: “This is Steve Yzerman.”

I felt so foolish because I didn't know what he looked like.

We both laughed and he shook my hand. I could sense Bob insecurity, but there was something very special about him that I will never forget.

He will be missed.
