Proteau's Blog: Blowing fresh air

• You can call Sean Avery many things, but you can't ever say the Kings' pest-without-peer is always wrong about everything that comes out of his frequently-opened mouth. ESPN's David Amber asked Avery how he thought other players viewed him, and Avery responded with his typically refreshing candor.

“I couldn't care less,” he said. “I have no desire in knowing what they think at all…I'm not here to make friends with guys that I play against. I think if you are, you're in the wrong business.”

Hallelujah. None of this pally-wally union brethren fluff from Avery. Like him or not, he's bringing everything he has, and opponents should follow his lead.

• Both of the Rangers' first two goals against Florida last night had identical descriptions: Both goals came on the power play; both were scored by Martin Straka; Michael Nylander had the first assist both times; and Brendan Shanahan had two “second” assists. What does this mean? How should I know? Who am I, Criss Angel?

• One last note from my Noel Gallagher concert experience Tuesday: If you're like the nimrod who sat beside me and enjoy spending less time watching the show than you do watching pictures of the show that you've taken on your damn cell phone, I have a message for you: Up yours, technogeek. You're ruining it for the rest of us.
