Proteau's Blog: Soft trade winds

• Who says there are no trades of consequence in the NHL anymore? In the last week, we've seen Patrick Traverse, Wade Brookbank, Randy Robitaille and Mike York moved. Okay, they're trades of little consequence, but technically, consequence is still involved.

• It's a great thing that Blue Jackets players will act as celebrity models to benefit Columbus Children's Hospital Wednesday, Jan. 10. That said, every time I think of guys such as Adam Foote, David Vyborny, Manny Malhotra and Jody Shelley strolling down the catwalk, my mind goes back to one of my favorite moments in Slap Shot. Here's a family-friendly recap of that unforgettable movie moment:

(Chiefs veteran Johnny Upton): I'm gonna flash 'em, Joe.

(team owner Joe McGrath): No, you're not.

Upton: I'm gonna open up this (expletive deleted) robe and wiggle my (expletive deleted) at ‘em. And do you know why? Because I want you to have a heart attack and die so we don't have to do this (expletive deleted) anymore. You and your (expletive deleted) fashion shows.

• Coyotes GM Michael Barnett claimed center Joel Perrault on waivers from St. Louis Tuesday. That means they now have a Perrault and a Perreault (Yanic) on the same team. Best wishes to Phoenix's broadcast crews.

• All things considered, I'd like the Penguins to stay in Pittsburgh. But if they have to move, Kansas City should be the first option – if only to get William “Boots” Del Biaggio III into the league as an owner. Boots Del Biaggio is too cool a name to let get away.
