Rangers D Mara to have facial surgery, expected to be out 2 weeks

NEW YORK - Rangers defenceman Paul Mara was scheduled for facial surgery Monday and will be sidelined for two weeks.

The 28-year-old was levelled by Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta with a check in the New York zone during New York's 4-3 victory on Saturday night.

He was examined by doctors Sunday in New York and missed a 5-0 win over Florida at home that night. Rangers coach Tom Renney said before the game that Mara wasn't diagnosed with a concussion.

The operation was scheduled for Monday at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York.
