Red Wings hope to end season-long slide vs. Capitals

Detroit (31-10-7) at Washington (30-15-4), 12:30 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The defending Stanley Cup champion

Detroit Red Wings are on their longest losing streak of the

season.

The Red Wings will attempt to end that skid when they visit

All-Star Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

With Henrik Zetterberg sidelined with back spasms Thursday,

Detroit suffered a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars. Zetterberg is

listed as day-to-day.

It was the Red Wings' fourth straight loss and first home

setback since December 15, ending a seven-game winning streak at

Joe Louis Arena.

The reigning Hart Trophy winner, Ovechkin left Tuesday's 3-2

overtime loss to the Boston Bruins with an undisclosed injury.

He is expected to be back for this contest.

The 23-year-old Ovechkin leads the NHL with 31 goals this

season. The Russian superstar also ranks third in league with

60 points.
