Red Wings host Blackhawks before Winter Classic

Chicago (20-6-7) at Detroit (23-7-5), 7:30 p.m. EST

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The much-anticipated Winter Classic between

the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings could have even

more intrigue.

The clubs meet at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday with the Blackhawks

looking to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 10

games.

Should Chicago triumph Tuesday, Detroit would get another shot

to end the winning streak when the teams clash at Wrigley Field

on New Year's Day.

Dustin Byfuglien scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-1

triumph over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday as Chicago set a team

record with its ninth straight victory.

Though an "Original Six" team, the Blackhawks had never won more

than eight straight, doing so in December 1971 and January 1981.

This run also has them tied with the San Jose Sharks for the

longest winning streak of the season.

The Red Wings - who beat Chicago, 5-4, in a shootout on December

6 - have lost two straight.

Detroit's Tomas Holmstrom has notched four goals and four

assists in his last seven contests.
