Red Wings sign free agent forward Brunnstrom, release forward Johnson

DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings have signed free agent forward Fabian Brunnstrom to a one-year, two-way contract.

The Red Wings announced Brunnstrom's signing Monday. The team also released veteran forward Ryan Johnson.

Brunnstrom has scored three goals for the Red Wings during the 2011 pre-season. He appeared in 99 games with the Dallas Stars from 2008-10. He became the third player in NHL history to score a hat trick in his first career game on Oct. 15, 2008.

Johnson was in Detroit's camp on a professional tryout. He has played in 701 NHL games with Florida, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Vancouver and Chicago.
