Regier's last stand

It seems the entire NHL has learned and vowed not to repeat the lessons taught by the Sabres during the Drury/Briere fiasco of last summer.

That is, of course, except for…ah…um...The Sabres.

After being forced to overpay for Thomas Vanek (because to let him go after losing Drury and Briere would have had Sabres fans in the streets with torches and pitchforks), unrestricted free agent to be Brian Campbell, one of the best defensemen in the game today, is about to be lost.

He will most likely be moved at the trade deadline, probably for a bag of pucks and someone's second round draft pick.

If Darcy Regier fails to figure out a way to get Campbell back to the negotiating table before this transpires, Regier needs to go.

Mike Farrell, Bernhards Bay, N.Y.
