Reitred or active challenge: answers

Check your results for our "retired or active" quiz. Answers reflect whether they played professionally in 2013-14.

1. Martin Straka ACTIVE. Straka, who had a 95-point season with Pittsburgh in 2000-01 and last played in the NHL for the Rangers in 2008, had six goals in 26 games for Plzen of the Czech league this season.

2. Vaclav Varada ACTIVE. A veteran of 493 NHL games with Buffalo and Ottawa, Varada has played the past eight campaigns in Europe, including this one with Trinec Ocelari in the Czech Republic.

3. Steve Begin RETIRED. Begin actually did announce his retirement before this season when a recurrence of a hip injury made it too difficult for him to continue. Begin had stints with five franchises, including two tours of duty with Calgary.

4. Cristobal Huet ACTIVE. The NHL's save percentage leader in 2006, Huet parted ways with Chicago after their 2010 Stanley Cup and has been with Lausanne of the Swiss league the past two years.

5. Stephen Reinprecht ACTIVE. A Stanley Cup winner with Colorado in 2001, Reinprecht tore it up with the Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers in Germany this season.

6. Sami Kapanen ACTIVE. At 40, Kapanen was still munching minutes for KalPa Kuopio in Finland this season. He was last seen in the NHL with Philly in 2008.

7. Antero Niitymaki RETIRED. Like Begin, hip problems forced Niitymaki from the game. His final season was 2012-13 in Finland. He now scouts for the Flyers.

8. Wade Redden RETIRED. Redden's adventurous career came to a close in January when he officially announced his retirement. A salary cap casualty when the Rangers famously demoted him and his large contract to the AHL, Redden's final NHL days came during the 2013 playoffs with Boston.

9. Ville Niemenen ACTIVE. Niemenen saw action with seven different NHL clubs before heading back to Europe in 2007. His home this season was Tappara Tampere in Finland.

10. David Vyborny RETIRED. A mainstay for Columbus during their expansion years, Vyborny left the Jackets in 2008 and played the next four years in the Czech Republic.
