According to ESPN’s John Buccigross, Tony Granato is set to leave the Detroit Red Wings organization to take over as the head coach at the University of Wisconsin.

Mark Osiecki, the assistant coach of the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, and Tony’s brother Don Granato will fill out Tony’s staff, Buccigross reports.

As a player, Tony Granato spent four years at the University of Wisconsin prior to being drafted by the New York Rangers in 1982.

Granato spent six seasons in the Colorado Avalanche organization as both an assistant coach and a head coach, once his playing days were done. After being fired by the Avs in June 2009, Granato joined the Penguins organization where he was an assistant coach for five seasons.

In July 2014, Granato joined the Detroit Red Wings as an assistant coach.

Don Granato, 48, has spent the past five seasons as the head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. During his playing days, he helped the Badgers win the 1990 NCAA Division I national championship.

Osiecki has been behind the IceHogs bench for three seasons. Prior to joining the AHL club, the 47-year-old was the head coach at Ohio State from 2010-13. Osiecki was an assistant coach on Mike Eaves staff at Wisconsin for six seasons (2004-10).

Eaves was fired as head coach of the Badgers earlier this month after spending 14 years behind the Wisconsin bench.
