Reward offense with home ice advantage

In your article “56 ways to save the All-Star Game” you suggest the league go the Major League Baseball route and give home ice advantage to the winner.

I understand that this would make for a more competitive game, but why not use that same motivation to improve every regular season game instead of a meaningless one.

What I'm talking about is making goals for the deciding factor as to who gets home ice advantage in the playoffs. I realize that in the few weeks leading up to the All-Star Game we all want to see a good show, but this would go a long way to increasing team motivation to score more goals in every game.

Hopefully it would start opening things up and removing the trap from the game.
