Rheault's hat trick helps Heat force Game 7 in North Division semi

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Jon Rheault scored three goals as the Abbotsford Heat beat the Rochester Americans 5-1 Sunday, forcing Game 7 in the American Hockey League North Division semifinal.

The Heat, who once trailed 3-1 in the best-of-seven series, will try and complete the comeback Tuesday night in Rochester.

Rheault, who had six goals in 44 regular-season games, has five goals and six points in the playoffs.

Abbotsford took control early, scoring three goals in just over two minutes midway through the first period. Jason Jaffray began the Heat's offensive attack 9:09 into the game, and Rheault made it 2-0 just 41 seconds later. The 23-year-old Rheault then extended the Heat's lead to 3-0 at the 11:18 mark.

Jamie Johnson scored a power-play goal to put Rochester on the board at 8:25 of the second period, but David Van der Gulik answered with a power play-goal of his own at 17:51.

Rheault completed his hat trick midway through the third period. Brett Sutter earned his third assist of the game on Rheault's goal.

Heat goaltender David Shantz turned aside 22 of 23 shots to pick up the victory.

Rochester starter Tyler Plante was pulled after surrendering three goals on seven shots. Rookie Alexander Salak stopped 32 of 34 shots the rest of the way.
