EDMONTON - Robin Figren had a goal and an assist to lead the Edmonton Oil Kings to a 4-1 win over the Everett Silvertips in Western Hockey League action Thursday.
Edmonton has now won three straight games. The Oil Kings (7-6-1-2) held the Silvertips off the shot clock for the first nine minutes of the game, and scored first on a rebound chip by Brent Raedeke at 6:30.
Everett (8-7-0-0) nearly tied it four minutes later when Edmonton netminder Dalyn Flette tried to cradle a fast wrist shot by Jordan Mistelbacher, but the puck slipped under his glove arm before the puck was cleared.
The Silvertips tied it just 36 seconds into the second period on a power play resulting from a Matt Swaby elbow at the end of the first. Kyle Beach took the puck behind the net and, with Flette out of position, scooped the puck onto his stick before wrapping it top-shelf from behind the goal.
Figren stepped out of the penalty box late in the second frame and with 8.6 seconds left put the Rodeo Kings up 2-1. He coralled a tipped shot from Cameron Cepek and backhanded the puck behind Silvertips netminder Leland Irving.
Karey Peiper added an insurance marker with 1:51 remaining in the third, and with 17.7 left, Breitkreuz scored an empty-net goal.
Shots were 27-26 in favour of Everett.
