Rome's third-period goal holds up as winner as Moose win 4-3 over IceHogs

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Aaron Rome's third-period goal stood up as the winner in the Manitoba Moose's 4-3 victory over the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday afternoon in AHL hockey.

Sergei Shirokov opened the scoring while Brian Salcido, Guillaume Desbiens and Rome all notched power-play goal.

Moose goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 21 of 24 shots for his 12th win this season.

At 16:50 the Moose opened the scoring when Marco Rosa, from behind the net, centred the puck for Shirokov who wired the puck into the mesh for the game's first lead.

While on a 5-on-3 advantage, Brian Salcido blasted the puck from the point to extend his point streak to three games and put the Moose up 2-0 at 12:33 of the second.

With another IceHog serving time, Manitoba capitalized on their 17th shot of the night. At 17:31 of the second, Desbiens snuck the puck under the cross bar to give his club a 3-0 lead.

The IceHogs broke their goose-egg 53 seconds into the third frame, as Jeff Skille topped the puck over Schneider, while on the power play, to get on the board, 3-1.

At 5:02 of the third, Rockford put themselves within one. With a sleek pass from Darryl Boyle, Jeff Skille notched his second of the night off the doorstep for a 3-2 tally.

After the goal, Bryan Bickell was put away for slashing, allowing the Moose to score their third power-play goal of the night. Rome notched his fourth goal in five game, with a wrist shot, to double-up the IceHogs, 4-2.

At 17:32 Kyle Greentree notched a power-play marker to round out the scoring.

Rockford went 3-for-6 on the power play while Manitoba was 3-for-9.
