Russell scores both Hamilton goals as Bulldogs edged Marlies 2-1
HAMILTON - Ryan Russell scored both of Hamilton's goals and Peter Delmas made 32 saves as the Bulldogs edged the Toronto Marlies 2-1 on Friday in the American Hockey League.
Hamilton (4-1-3) opened the scoring at 17:11 of the second when David Desharnais snapped a shot on net, grabbed his own rebound and dished a pass to Russell, who one-timed it past Toronto goalie James Reimer.
The Marlies (2-5-0) tied it with seven seconds left in the period as Christian Hanson redirected a Jeff Finger shot while on the power play.
Russell added his second goal in the third period by skating down the left side boards and blasting a shot that sailed over the glove of Reimer, who finished the game with 27 saves.
It was Delmas's first career AHL win.
