Sabres’ defenseman Mark Pysyk released from hospital after collapsing during basketball game
Mark Pysyk is, “doing well,” following a health scare early Saturday.
While taking part in a pick-up basketball game, Pysyk collapsed, reported Kevin Oklobzija of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. The health scare came one day after the Buffalo Sabres demoted him to the AHL’s Americans.
While the AHL does not make available ice time for individual skaters, Pysyk did skate in Friday night’s 4-3 loss to the Marlies.
According to Oklobzija, during the game the 23-year-old blueliner, “dropped to his knees and then collapsed,” at The Blue Cross Arena. He was then transported to hospital for evaluation.
The Americans released a statement after Pysyk had been at Strong Memorial Hospital for several hours to report that Pysyk has been released and was all right.
“It seems everything is OK and that’s a great thing,” Sabres coach Ted Nolan told Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News.
Rochester is not back in action until Wednesday, March 4 when they visit the Utica Comets. There have been no announcements made about how much time – if any – Pysyk will miss.
Buffalo’s first-round pick, 23rd overall, in the 2010 draft, Pysyk has suited up for seven games for the Sabres this season, scoring two goals and three points. In 51 games with the Americans, Pysyk has three goals and 16 points and sits just one goal and two points shy of setting career-highs.
