Buffalo Sabres rookie Hudson Fasching wasted no time getting his name on the score sheet.

With the Sabres trailing 2-0 to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday afternoon, Fasching skated around Jacob Trouba and beat Michael Hutchinson for his first NHL goal.

Fasching, who signed his entry-level contract with Buffalo on Monday, became the first Sabre to score on his first shot in his NHL debut since Zemgus Girgensons (0ct. 2, 2013).

“I’m so excited,” Fasching told The Buffalo News of making his NHL debut. “I’m almost speechless. It’s a dream come true for me.

“I’m not trying to overthink it too much is my strategy going into it. It’s something that I’ve dreamed of since I was a little kid, just to play in the NHL. I put a lot of hard work in. My family and I have sacrificed a lot to get here, so it means the world to me.”

Fellow Sabres rookie defenceman Casey Nelson picked up his first career NHL point with an assist on the goal.

According to Elias Sports, Fasching and Nelson are the first Sabres to record their first NHL point on the same goal in their debut since Alex Mogilny and Dave Snuggerud did it in October 1989.

Originally a 2013 fourth-round selection of the L.A. Kings, Fasching was dealt to the Sabres in a March 2014 trade.

The 20-year-old University of Minnesota product registered a career-high 20 goals and 38 points in 37 games this season prior to signing with Buffalo.
