Salavat blanks Metallurg 4-0 in Game 2 of KHL Eastern final

Salavat Yulaev Ufa defeated visiting Metallurg Magnitogorsk 4-0 to go up 2-0 in the best-of-seven Kontinental League Gagarin Cup Eastern Conference final Saturday.

Metallurg had few chances in Ufa today, conceding four goals in the first two periods and not mustering any offense of their own.

Kirill Koltsov gave Salavat the lead on a power play in the ninth minute of action, with Oleg Saprykin, Sergey Ziniviev and Andrey Kuteykin also adding their names to the scoreboard through the first 37 minutes of action. Eric Ersberg turned away 27 shots by Metallurg to post the shutout.

“We played much better than in the first match and deserved to win today,” said Salavat Yulaev coach Vyacheslav Bykov. “Looking ahead to the game in Magnitogorsk, we will be ready.”

The KHL Gagarin Cup continues tomorrow with the third game of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl-Atlant Mytishchi Western Conference series. Salavat Yulaev and Metallurg return to action on Monday, March 28.
