Salavat Yulaev beats Metallurg 1-0 in Game 7 of KHL Eastern final, advance to Gagarin Cup against Atlant

Salavat Yulaev defeated Metallurg Magnitogorsk in a thrilling 1-0 “win or go home” seventh game of the Kontinental League Eastern Conference final in Ufa.

After two intense periods of scoreless hockey, Vladimir Antipov scored the game-winning and series-clinching goal in the 47th minute of action to the delight of the capacity crowd filling Ufa Arena. Salavat Yulaev netminder Eric Ersberg had 20 saves for the shutout victory.

While the first six games averaged almost six goals per game, in Game 7 each team realized the margin for error was slim and as a result played at a more measured and conservative pace.

Salavat Yulaev will now host Altant in the first game of the Gagarin Cup final on Friday. Atlant earlier dispatched Lokomotiv Yaroslavl 4-2 to earn the KHL Western Conference crown and a trip to the Gagarin Cup championship round.
