San Jose Sharks sign free agent defenceman Jay Leach to a two-way contract

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Sharks have signed free agent defenceman Jay Leach to a one-year contract.

The team announced the deal Wednesday. The deal is a two-way contract that reportedly will pay Leach US$500,000 when he is in the NHL.

Leach joined the Sharks last December after being waived by Montreal. He appeared in 35 games with San Jose and the Canadiens.

He scored his first career goal on March 11 against Nashville. Leach has one goal and two assists in 63 career games.
