Sean Avery not yet entered into NHL behavioral modification program

According to a report from Canadian sports network TSN, Sean Avery has not entered Stage 1 of the NHL-NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioral Modification Program. The report states that while it hasn’t happened yet, it could happen over the next few days or weeks.

Avery, who is not going to be welcomed back by the Stars is undergoing counseling from doctors with the NHL-NHLPA, but they will not decide when or if Avery is ready to return.

Medical doctors, along with commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA executive director Paul Kelly are the ones who decide when a player is formally introduced to Stage 1 of the program, which would ensure Avery medical leave with pay.
